About The ShelterWhen we humanly trap feral cats, we have them spayed/neutered and ear-tipped for identification, they are then put back on site. If there is no one willing to feed them, we add another station to our nightly feeding round. The feral kittens that we trap, too young to be spayed/neutered and too old to be tamed, are kept at the Shelter, where they live in a large cat run, to get used to their surroundings and make friends with the other resident cats living in the garden by making contact through the wire. Because of the mixed sexes and ages of the kittens, we play safe, by having them neutered when we think they are about five months old. When they are roughly 6 months old, we release them into our secure garden, which has ‘scud barriers’ on top of the 2 metre fence, they have sleeping boxes in the animal kitchen, outside there are many snug, individual fibre glass houses, though you often see 4 or 5 cats in each house.
