Willis the Wondercat

Pete & Maggie received a telephone call to say that a cat had been dumped on the M1 motorway near Toddington. They rushed over and eventually found a young ginger male cat (now called Willis). Willis had been hit by traffic and was found dragging himself around by his front legs as he had no movement in his back legs at all. He was taken over to the Shelter's vet in Leighton Buzzard as an emergency.

Willis had four operations which involved inserting steel rods, pins, washers and other assorted bits of ironmongery into his shattered rear legs and pelvis. He had an external fixator attached to his leg for four weeks which is now off. Throughout this painful process Willis remained happy and contented. It was if he knew that in spite of the pain that he must have felt, these people would eventually make him feel better.

Although Willis still has quite a way to go, and needs to build up the strength in his back legs he can now walk (and quite well too). The specialist at Davis & White has been fantastic. The bill for surgery greatly exceeded the initial estimate. Pete & Maggie happily continued with the treatment though, regardless of cost. The specialist very kindly reduced his fees to £2660 to help the shelter.
